Greenville, NC (Sports Network) - Miguel Paul tallied a double-double with 22
points and 10 assists as the East Carolina Pirates outlasted the Marshall
Thundering Herd, 86-79, in the Conference-USA regular-season finale at Minges
Coliseum.
Maurice Kemp netted 21 points for ECU (18-11, 9-7 C-USA), while Akeem Richmond
and Ty Armstrong chipped in 18 and 13 points, respectively. Robert Sampson
hauled in 12 rebounds for the Pirates, who have won four of five.
For Marshall (13-18, 9-7), Robert Goff scored a career-high 27 points on 12-
of-19 from the field. Elijah Pittman had 21 points on 4-of-7 from 3-point
range, while DeAndre Kane logged 20 points, 12 assists, seven rebounds and
five steals.
ECU shot 50 percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes to take a 35-25
lead at halftime.
In a high-scoring second half, both teams shot 55.6 percent from the floor.
After Marshall claimed a three-point lead with 5:58 left, ECU ripped off a 7-0
run to regain the advantage. After the Herd tied the game less than a minute
later, the Pirates took the lead for good on a Richmond jumper with 3:35
remaining.
The difference was made at the foul line, as ECU shot 28-of-39 from the
stripe, while Marshall was just 14-of-20.
