Hanover, NH (Sports Network) - Led by 21 points from Alex Mitola, the
Dartmouth Big Green defeated the Columbia Lions, 64-58, in an Ivy League tilt
at Leede Arena.
Gabas Maldunas added 16 points and nine rebounds and Connor Boehm chipped in
with 12 points off the bench for the Big Green (9-19, 5-9 Ivy).
For the Lions (12-16, 4-10), Brian Barbour paced the team with 17 points,
while Grant Mullins and Alex Rosenberg each finished with 13.
Columbia took a 33-27 advantage into halftime by knocking down 4-of-9 from 3-
point range and outscoring Dartmouth 11-5 at the free-throw line. Dartmouth
finished the opening half connecting on 62.5 percent from the field and 2-of-4
from 3-point distance.
In the second half the Lions went cold, making only 26.1 percent of their
field goal tries, including 2-of-7 from beyond the 3-point arc. The Big Green
hit on 47.4 percent from the field and 4-of-9 from 3-point range.
Dartmouth
opened the half with an 11-2 run to take their first lead since midway through
the first. From there the teams traded leads until the Big Green went ahead
for good, with a 6-0 run in the final minutes that turned a one-point deficit
into a five-point lead.
Dartmouth grabbed the win despite capturing a mere four offensive rebounds,
compared to 12 for the visitors.
