Statesboro, GA (Sports Network) - Georgia Southern fired head men's basketball
coach Charlton "C.Y." Young after four seasons on Tuesday.
The Eagles finished 14-19 overall and went 7-11 in Southern Conference play.
Their season came to an end with Saturday's loss in the quarterfinals of the
"Charlton Young represents Georgia Southern with the utmost character. He has
done a tremendous job with taking a program that had some trouble when he
arrived and getting it to a level of respectability," said athletic director
Tom Kleinlein. "At the same time, I felt where we needed to go is beyond where
we are at right now and that a change in leadership is necessary."
Young compiled a 48-34 record in four seasons with the Eagles, including a
26-46 mark in conference games.
A former three-time all-conference player at Georgia Southern, Young took over
a program in 2009 that faced two years of NCAA probation.
