Tampa, FL (Sports Network) - Derek Jeter played shortstop for four innings and
the New York Yankees upended the Philadelphia Phillies, 6-2, Wednesday night.
It was Jeter's first action in the field since Game 1 of the ALCS last
October. He suffered a broken ankle in that game and had surgery during the
offseason.
Jeter had made a pair of starts as a designated hitter earlier this spring.
Andy Pettitte allowed four hits and a run over three-plus innings in his
spring-training debut for New York. Former Phillie Ben Francisco, who signed
with the Yankees Monday, had a two-run double in the first inning.
Cliff Lee gave up six hits and five runs -- two earned -- over the first 2 2/3
innings for the Phillies. Darin Ruf hit his first homer of the spring in the
loss.
