Greensboro, NC (Sports Network) - Dez Wells scored a game-high 21 points,
leading five players in double figures, as the Maryland Terrapins defeated the
Wake Forest Demon Deacons, 75-62, in the first round of the ACC Tournament at
Greensboro Coliseum.
Alex Len and Seth Allen added 11 points apiece for the seventh-seeded Terps
(21-11), followed by Nick Faust and Pe'Shon Howard with 10 points each. With
the victory, Maryland advances to the quarterfinals of the tournament versus
second-seeded Duke.
The 10th-seeded Demon Deacons (13-18) were paced by C.J. Harris who tallied 19
points, but he shot just 5-of-15 from the floor. Devin Thomas tacked on 14
points in the setback as well.
Wake Forest handled the action in the paint in the first half, outscoring the
Terps by a 16-8 margin, allowing the Demon Deacons to secure a 35-30 advantage
at the break.
In the second half Wake dropped to only 36.4 percent accuracy from the floor,
including 1-of-9 behind the 3-point line, as Maryland began to pull away for
the double-digit victory.
The Terps finished the meeting hitting on 7-of-15 behind the 3-point line and
also outscored the Demon Deacons by a 22-12 margin at the charity stripe.
