Las Vegas, NV (Sports Network) - Karol Gruszecki tallied 19 points as the
Texas-Arlington Mavericks coasted to a 69-53 victory over the Texas-San
Antonio Roadrunners in the semifinals of the Western Athletic Conference
semifinals at Orleans Arena.
Jamel Outler chipped in 13 points off the bench for UTA (19-12), which will
take on New Mexico State in the championship round. Kevin Butler added 10
points and seven rebounds.
Jeromie Hill paced UTSA (10-22) with 17 points and Jordan Sims scored 12
points. The contest was the Roadrunners' final appearance as a member of the
WAC, as they are set to migrate to the Conference USA next season.
UTA took control early on as it hit on 5-of-11 attempts from 3-point range en
route to a 33-20 lead at halftime. The Roadrunners shot just 28 percent from
the field in the opening 20 minutes.
Although UTSA heated on to connect on 42.3 percent of its shots from the floor
after the break, the Mavericks drained 57.5 percent of their field goal tries
to extend their edge.
UTA outscored the Roadrunners, 34-14, in the paint and held a 35-31 edge in
the rebounding battle.
