Las Vegas, NV (Sports Network) - Katin Reinhardt poured in 21 points as the
third-seeded UNLV Runnin' Rebels defeated the second-seeded Colorado State
Rams, 75-65, in the semifinals of the Mountain West Conference Tournament at
the Thomas & Mack Center.
Anthony Bennett chipped in with 19 points and five rebounds for UNLV (25-8),
which will take on New Mexico in the championship game on Saturday.
Colton Iverson registered a double-double of 24 points and 16 rebounds for
Colorado State (25-8). Wes Eikmeier contributed 13 points and five assists in
the losing effort. Dorian Green, who was questionable for the contest, went 2-
of-7 from the floor to net just five points.
The Rebels took a 42-36 lead into halftime after they drained all 11 of their
free-throw attempts and also 7-of-12 from beyond the arc in the opening 20
minutes. Colorado State fell behind as it went 1-of-7 from 3-point range in
the first half.
Despite missing all six of its 3-point tries in the second stanza, UNLV
extended its lead before the final buzzer as it tallied seven points off of
turnovers.
Although it fell, Colorado State held a 42-32 edge in the rebounding battle
and also outscored UNLV, 36-22, in the paint.
