Smithfield, RI (Sports Network) - Cedrick Lindsay poured in 25 points as the
Richmond Spiders defeated the Bryant Bulldogs, 76-71, in the first round of
the 2013 College Basketball Invitational at the Chace Athletic Center.
Kendall Anthony chipped in 15 points off the bench for Richmond (19-14), which
will advance to play Wright State in the next round. Also getting into the
mix, Greg Robbins contributed 13 points and five rebounds while Darien
Brothers tallied 10 points.
Alex Francis and Dyami Starks scored 16 points each for Bryant (19-12), which
also received a double-double of 10 points and 11 assists from Frankie Dobbs.
Curtis Oakley chimed in with 10 points, five rebounds and two steals off the
bench as the Bulldogs concluded their final season with full Division I
eligibility.
Bryant took a 37-33 lead into the intermission after Francis scored 12 points
and grabbed six rebounds in the first half. The Bulldogs hit on 51.9 percent
of their field goal tries including 6-of-11 from 3-point range, but the
Spiders stayed close by shooting an even 50 percent from the floor.
Richmond connected on 50 percent of its field goal tries in the second half as
well. It also sank 5-of-11 from beyond the arc and 10-of-12 at the charity
stripe in the stanza while the Bulldogs cooled off to convert 44 percent from
the field. The contest was tied at 61 with four minutes remaining before the
Spiders generated a 9-3 run to take control for good.
Richmond's reserves posted 23 points while the Bulldogs' bench provided only
12.
