GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. - The Minnesota Twins have announced that Vance Worley will be the opening day pitcher when the team starts its season on Monday.
Worley had a strong showing in his final spring training appearance on Wednesday. He allowed seven hits and two runs in five innings, with no walks and five strikeouts.
Worley was included in the trade that sent Ben Revere to the Philadelphia Phillies this offseason.
He did not have a tremendous spring, finishing with a 5.73 ERA in six starts. He logged 22 innings and gave up 16 runs on 34 hits.
The Twins' opener is at Target Field against the Detroit Tigers. Worley's first pitch is slated for 3:05 p.m.
