New York, NY (Sports Network) - Toronto Maple Leafs forward Joffrey Lupul,
San Jose Sharks goaltender Antti Niemi and Edmonton Oilers forward Taylor Hall
were selected as the NHL's 'Three Stars' for the week ending March 31.
Lupul gained First Star honors by leading the NHL with nine points (5G, 4A)
in four games last week. The 29-year-old Alberta native posted three game-
winners and as many power-play goals during the run of success. He finished
the week with a goal and three assists in a 4-0 win over Ottawa on Saturday.
Niemi picked up the Second Star after posting a league-best four wins and a
pair of shutouts with a 1.22 goals-against average and .952 save percentage.
The 29-year-old Finnish backstop posted back-to-back shutouts, blanking
Anaheim on 22 saves in a 4-0 win on March 27 and making 27 saves in a 2-0
decision over Detroit one day later.
Hall earned the Third Star with an NHL-leading five goals to go with eight
points over four games. He finished with three points (1G, 2A) in a 3-0 win
over St. Louis on March 26, then recorded a hat trick in the first 7:53 of a
4-0 win over Vancouver four days later. The trifecta snapped Wayne Gretzky's
previous team record.
