Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - The Toronto Maple Leafs announced on Thursday
that center Mikhail Grabovski was placed on waivers with the intention of
using one of two compliance buyouts on his contract.
"I would like to thank Mikhail for his contributions with the Leafs over the
past five seasons," said Toronto general manager Dave Nonis. "This was not an
easy decision to make as Mikhail made numerous contributions to our hockey
club. This is a roster move that will give us salary cap flexibility moving
Grabovski, 29, was signed to a five-year extension in March of 2012. He
totaled nine goals and 16 points in 48 games during the truncated 2013 season,
after striking for 23 goals and 51 points over 74 games in 2011-12.
Originally drafted by the Canadiens in 2004, Grabovski has racked up 94
goals and 217 points in 367 career games with Montreal and Toronto.
