Oxford, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Paced by Jawon Chisholm's three rushing
touchdowns, the Akron Zips took down the Miami-Ohio RedHawks, 24-17, in a Mid-
American Conference matchup at Yager Stadium.
Chisholm had 86 yards on 16 carries for the Zips (2-6, 1-3 MAC). Kyle Pohl
threw for 227 yards on 23-of-32 passing, while Zach D'Orazio had seven
receptions for 88 yards.
The RedHawks (0-7, 0-3) made a late push that proved to be too little, too
late. Austin Boucher had 226 yards with a touchdown and an interception on 23-
of-34 passing. Dawan Scott led all receivers with 90 yards and a touchdown on
Akron started the scoring early in the first quarter with a two-yard Chisholm
The home team answered later in the frame with a six-yard touchdown pass from
Boucher to David Frazier.
The Zips found the end zone on their first drive of the second half on a
Chisholm eight-yard run to go up, 14-7.
Akron continued to attack on the ground later in the third quarter. Chisholm
had another rushing touchdown, this time a one-yard run.
Robert Stein hit a 19-yard field goal to put the Zips up 24-7 midway through
the fourth quarter.
Miami-Ohio would not go down quietly. Boucher completed a 44-yard touchdown
pass to Scott to bring it deficit to ten with 4:49 left.
The RedHawks continued to pull closer following a 52-yard field goal by Kaleb
Patterson with 1:27 remaining, but they failed to recover the ensuing on-side
kick and Akron ran out the clock from there.
This marked the first loss for Miami-Ohio against Akron in Oxford since 1939.
It still leads the all-time series, 16-6-1.
