New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - George Beamon's three-point play in the final second and game-high 28 points helped the Manhattan Jaspers edge out fellow New York City rival the Columbia Lions, 71-70, at Levien Gymnasium.

Beamon shot 6-of-9 from the field, including 3-of-3 from 3-point range, and made 13-of-14 from the free-throw stripe in a standout performance for the Jaspers (2-0). Shane Richards scored 19 points off the bench, making 6-of-8 from beyond the arc.

Grant Mullins led the Lions (1-1) with 23 points, including a perfect 8-for-8 from the foul line in an effort that fell just short. Cory Osetkowski cashed in 11 points and four rebounds.

Beamon and Richards each ended the first half with 15 points apiece to give Manhattan a three-point edge at intermission, 38-35.

In a tight second-half battle, a Mullins' 3-pointer with 51 seconds remaining pushed the Lions ahead until the game's final second. The winning play resulted after Beamon secured an offensive rebound, scored on the putback and drew a foul. The forward sank the game-winning free throw to complete the three-point play, giving the Jaspers a narrow victory.

Although Columbia dominated in the paint, notching 36 points to Manhattan's 13, the Jaspers got 26 points off their bench and lit it up from beyond the arc, where they shot 10-for-12.
