Maui, HI (SportsNetwork.com) - David Kravish posted 19 points and 15 rebounds
to lead California to an 85-77 victory over Arkansas in the opening game of
the Maui Invitational.
Kravish added three blocks while shooting 8-of-12 from the field, with Ricky
Kreklow contributing 17 points off the bench for the unbeaten Golden Bears
Jabari Bird and Justin Cobbs each recorded 15 points in the win, with Cobbs
finishing with seven assists.
Cal will face the winner of Monday's game between No. 8 Syracuse and Minnesota
on Tuesday, with Arkansas (3-1) taking on the loser of that matchup in the
Michael Qualls paced the Razorbacks with 21 points and Anthlon Bell had 16 in
the setback. The two combined for an 8-of-17 success rate from 3-point range.
Qualls knocked down a trey to begin the second half that gave Arkansas a 35-34
edge, but Cal countered with a 13-4 run to move in front to stay. Bird sank a
pair of triples during the surge, the last staking the Golden Bears to a 47-39
advantage four minutes into the period.
Cobbs netted five straight points later on to send Cal ahead by double-digits
The Razorbacks were able to trim the deficit down to five, as Alandise Harris
followed a Kikko Haydar 3-pointer with an inside bucket that pulled Arkansas
within 62-57 with 7 1/2 minutes left. However, the Golden Bears answered with
an 8-0 spurt to create some distance.
