Reno, NV (SportsNetwork.com) - Led by 26 points from Mike Caffey, the Long
Beach State 49ers held off the Nevada Wolf Pack, 80-77 in overtime, in a non-
conference bout at the Lawlor Events Center.
Caffey shot 9-of-21 from the field for LBSU (4-9) and added six rebounds, five
assists and three steals. Tyler Lamb chipped in 17 points, while A.J. Spencer
For Nevada (5-8), Jerry Evans, Jr. tallied a double-double with 21 points and
11 rebounds. Deonte Burton stuffed the stat sheet with 19 points, seven boards
and five assists, while Cole Huff and Michael Perez poured in 16 and 11
Nevada shot 9-of-22 from the field and 11-of-14 from the free-throw line in
the first half, as it carried a 32-31 lead into intermission. LBSU shot just
33.3 percent in the opening stanza but kept the game close by attempting 11
more shots than its opponent.
After the Wolf Pack's lead extended to eight early in the second half, the
49ers ran off a 15-2 run to take a five-point lead with 11:07 left in
regulation. The teams traded a few more leads before Nevada held a three-point
advantage in the waning seconds, but a Caffey 3-pointer with one second left
tied the game at 68 and forced overtime.
In the extra session, LBSU grabbed a lead in the opening minute on a Spencer
3-pointer and held on from there. It shot 5-of-6 from the foul line in
overtime to help seal its fate.
LBSU forced 18 Nevada turnovers, which turned into 20 points. The 49ers
coughed up just nine miscues themselves.
