Niagara, NY (Sports Network) - Michael Alvarado scored a game-high 20 points,
leading five players in double figures, as the Manhattan Jaspers posted an
87-70 win over the Niagara Purple Eagles in a Metro Atlantic Athletic
Conference showdown at the Gallagher Center.
Liam McCabe-Moran came off the bench to offer up 18 points on 5-of-7 shooting
behind the three-point line for the Jaspers (16-7, 9-2 MAAC) as they recorded
their seventh straight win. George Beamon finished with 14 points, but shot
just 2-of-15 from the floor, followed by Roberto Colonette and Kidani Brutus
with 12 and 10 points, respectively.
The Purple Eagles (9-14, 4-7), losers of three in a row, were led by Juan'ya
Green with 18 points, but he was also charged with seven turnovers, while
Antoine Mason and Marvin Jordan produced 17 and 16 points, respectively.
Niagara led by a point early on in the meeting, but Manhattan took control
down the stretch in the first half, shooting 5-of-11 behind the three-point
line in the period in order to post a 38-30 advantage at the break.
In the second half the Jaspers made good on not just 62.5 percent from the
floor but also 15-of-20 at the free-throw line in order to run away with the
17-point win.
Manhattan was tabbed for 16 turnovers on the day but made up for it with a
34-26 rebounding edge and 53.1 percent shooting from the field overall.
