Albuquerque, NM (Sports Network) - Kendall Williams had 10 points and five
assists, as the New Mexico Lobos out-lasted Wyoming, 48-38 in a Mountain West
Conference defensive battle at The Pit.
Drew Gordon (seven points) pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds to help the
Lobos (20-4, 6-2 MWC) run their win streak to five in a row.
The Cowboys (18-6, 4-4) were sluggish following their upset win over 11th-
ranked UNLV last weekend, their first victory over a ranked opponent in more
than a decade. Francisco Cruz scored 14 in the loss, but only three other
Cowboys reached the scoring column. Leonard Washington grabbed a dozen
rebounds but shot just 3-of-13 from the floor.
Wyoming claimed a 23-19 halftime lead after a first half that saw each team
manage only eight field goals.
New Mexico turned a 25-21 deficit into a 34-27 lead thanks to a 13-2 run,
keyed by five points from A.J. Hardeman and a three-pointer from Jamal Fenton
at the 9:40 mark. Wyoming shot just 6-of-27 (.222) from the floor over the
final 20 minutes.
The teams combined to shoot a dismal 31.6 percent from the floor in the game.
New Mexico held a 43-31 rebounding advantage, as well as a key 14-0 edge in
bench points.
