New York, NY (Sports Network) - Reggie Willhite scored 24 points and collected
seven steals as Yale stunned Columbia in an Ivy League thriller at Levien
Gymnasium.
Greg Mangano added 11 points for Yale (16-6, 6-2 Ivy League) which has won
four of its last five.
Meiko Lyles scored 17, Mark Cisco had 12 points to match 12 rebounds and Brian
Barbour put in 10 points and handed out seven assists for Columbia (14-10,
3-5) which had won two of its previous three.
Columbia shot well in the first half hitting an even 50.0 percent of its shots
including 5-of-8 from three point range to take a 30-23 lead into the break.
Yale managed just 36.0 percent shooting including misses on all eight three
point attempts.
The Lions looked like they would cruise to victory as they led 55-40 with 5:43
remaining. Yale hung around and closed the game on a 19-4 run including
scoring the last five points to escape with the win.
Columbia outscored Yale 21-9 from beyond the arc while the Bulldogs held a
10-3 advantage from the free throw line. Yale also forced 21 turnovers in the
game.
