The Minnesota Twins have purchased the contract of right-hander Sam Deduno from Triple-A Rochester and he's scheduled to start for the Twins on Saturday.
Twins officials said the team optioned first baseman Chris Parmelee to Rochester after Thursday's game to make room for Deduno.
Deduno has compiled a 2.14 ERA with 46 strikeouts and 22 walks in 42 innings. He pitched in the big leagues with the Colorado Rockies in 2010 and the San Diego Padres in 2011.
The Twins needed a starter this weekend after right-hander Nick Blackburn was optioned to Rochester on Wednesday.
Cole De Vries was originally scheduled to start Saturday, but he was pushed back to Sunday after throwing two innings in relief in Wednesday's 5-1 loss to Detroit.
Deduno will be the Twins' 11th starter this season.
