Montreal, QC (Sports Network) - The Montreal Canadiens announced on Monday
the signing of first-round (third overall) draft pick Alex Galchenyuk to a
three-year, entry-level contract.
Galchenyuk, 18, was a teammate of first-overall selection Nail Yakupov on the
Sarnia Sting of the Ontario Hockey League. He failed to record a point in two
regular-season games last year, a season cut short early on due to a serious
knee injury.
The Milwaukee-born, left-handed shooter racked up 31 goals and 83 points in 68
games in 2010-11 for Sarnia.
Upon the completion of the deal, Galchenyuk becomes a restricted free agent.
