Jacksonville, FL (Sports Network) - The Jacksonville Jaguars announced
Tuesday that they will play a total of four home games in London, one each
season between 2013 and 2016.
Team owner Shad Khan hopes that playing games overseas will increase the
team's brand globally.
"The Jacksonville Jaguars will be a bold and ambitious NFL franchise," Khan
said. "Playing a home game in London over four seasons is consistent with our
vision to introduce and grow the Jaguars brand globally."
The St. Louis Rams had been scheduled to play a home game in London in 2013
and 2014, but they pulled out last week.
"This is a priceless opportunity to share the business, tourism and lifestyle
story of Jacksonville with international audiences, and I know it will give
the Jaguars a unique and powerful identity within the league and beyond," Khan
said.
The Jaguars have struggled to fill EverBank Field the last two years, but
haven't blacked out a home game since 2009.
"We've been a bit of a secret for a while. That's not the case after today. We
are the Jacksonville Jaguars," Khan said.
