Detroit, MI (Sports Network) - Delmon Young ripped a tie-breaking, three-run double in the bottom of the seventh inning, as the Detroit Tigers downed the Chicago White Sox, 7-4, in the opener of a three-game set Friday at Comerica Park.

Miguel Cabrera added three hits, including a two-run home run and scored twice for the Tigers, who now trail the White Sox by just two games in the AL Central and have beaten them in five straight matchups.

Octavio Dotel (5-2) earned the victory after allowing just one hit over 1 2/3 innings of relief. Jose Valverde tossed a scoreless ninth to nail down his 27th save of the season.

Jake Peavy (9-10) was charged for six runs on nine hits and four walks over six-plus frames to take his third straight losing decision.

A.J. Pierzynski clubbed a solo homer and Paul Konerko plated a pair in the setback, Chicago's fourth in its last five games.
