LONDON - Twin Cities resident Justin Zook refused to let bureaucracy and paper shuffling get in his way Tuesday, swimming his way to a gold medal and a world record in the 2012 London Paralympic Games.

Zook, a graduate of Maple Grove High School, set a world record in the prelims of the 100 meter backstroke (S10), and then bested that mark in the finals as he grabbed gold.

He and fellow Minnesotan Mallory Weggemann were among the U.S. swimmers that were reclassified by the International Paralympic Committee last week, forcing them to compete against more able-bodied athletes.
