Flushing, NY (Sports Network) - Paul Maholm tossed 5 1/3 scoreless innings,
while Jason Heyward and Dan Uggla each crushed solo home runs, as the Atlanta
Braves blanked the New York Mets, 3-0, in the opener of a three-game set
Friday at Citi Field.
Maholm (12-9) scattered five hits and walked three while striking out six to
snap a three-start winless skid. Craig Kimbrel worked around a leadoff walk in
the ninth to nail down his 35th save of the season and secure Atlanta's third
consecutive shutout.
Heyward homered in the fourth and Uggla added his 18th of the season in the
ninth, as the Braves won their third straight game and fifth in their last six
tries.
Jonathon Niese (10-9) gave up one run on five hits and one walk over six
frames to take his third consecutive loss.
