(Sports Network) - The magic continued Saturday.
Illinois State became the fifth FCS program this season to defeat an FBS
opponent with an impressive 31-14 victory at Eastern Michigan.
Illinois State trailed 14-10 at halftime, but scored 17 straight in the
second half.
The Redbirds (2-0) torched the Eagles for 216 yards behind Darrelynn Dunn (32
carries, 129 rushing yards, two touchdowns) and Jonathon Miller, who scored on
a 58-yard first-quarter run in the first quarter,
The Missouri Valley Football Conference has taken down two FBS programs on the
season, with Illinois State joining Youngstown State from Week 1.
In Week 2 of FCS action, 15 ranked teams played at 6 p.m. or later. Two teams
from last year's playoff field started off the action, the No. 16-ranked
Lehigh Mountain Hawks and the No. 14-ranked New Hampshire Wildcats.
Lehigh senior quarterback Mike Colvin passed for 249 yards and one touchdown,
adding a score on the ground as well, in a 35-14 win at Central Connecticut
State. The Mountain Hawks (2-0) jumped out to a three-touchdown lead at
halftime and never looked back. .
New Hampshire dropped its third straight FBS contest in the last three years,
falling to Minnesota, 44-7. Redshirt freshman signal-caller Sean Goldrich
suffered a shoulder injury on the Wildcats' second offensive play of the game.
New Hampshire had no answer for Minnesota quarterback MarQueis Gray, who
finished 6-of-8 for 100 yards and two touchdowns, while rushing for 109 yards
and two touchdowns.
