Minneapolis, MN (Sports Network) - Eighth months removed from major knee
surgery, Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson is on the active
roster for his team's season opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Peterson tore the anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments in his
left knee following a helmet-to-knee hit from Washington Redskins safety DeJon
Gomes during a Week 16 game in 2011. The 27-year-old had successful surgery in
December.
Peterson finished 2011 with 970 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns on 208
carries. It was the first time in his career that he didn't eclipse 1,000
yards rushing.
