Yanks slip past Rays to remain atop AL East

Bronx, NY (Sports Network) - Russell Martin capped a five-run third inning with a three-run homer, leading the New York Yankees to a 6-4 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays in the rubber match of a three-game set at Yankee Stadium.

Alex Rodriguez knocked in a pair of runs and Hiroki Kuroda struck out 10 in six innings to earn the win. Kuroda (14-10) yielded four runs on four hits and two walks.

The Yankees won the final two of the series and have opened a lead of 1 1/2 games over Baltimore in the AL East. The Orioles were set to play Oakland later Sunday.

Evan Longoria singled home two runs for the Rays, who will leave the Bronx five games behind the division-leading Yankees. Tampa Bay wrapped up a six- game road trip to Baltimore and New York with a 1-5 mark.
