Monroe, LA (Sports Network) - Nick Florence bounced back from a pair of early
interceptions to throw for 351 yards and four scores, lifting Baylor to a
47-42 victory over Lousiana-Monroe Friday night at Malone Stadium.
Florence was an efficient 26-of-39 passing to go with 55 yards on nine carries
on the ground. Glasco Martin led the running attack with 58 yards on 18 rushes
and a touchdown for the Bears (3-0), who have now won nine games in a row
dating back to last season, which is the second longest winning-streak in the
country behind TCU's 10 straight.
Tevin Reese was Florence's favorite target, as he hauled in eight passes for a
145 yards and a pair of scores. Terrance Williams added four catches for 84
yards and two touchdowns.
Kolton Browning passed for 272 yards, two touchdowns and an interception on
25-of-39 passing for ULM (1-2), which gained national acclaim by downing then-
No. 8 Arkansas before dropping an overtime decision to Auburn last week.
Browning added 49 yards and a touchdown on the ground, while Jyruss Edwards
rushed 21 times for 120 yards and a score and Monterrell Washington added a
pair of touchdowns and 86 yards on seven carries.
Trailing 34-28 to start the fourth, Browning led the Warhawks on a 15-play,
75-yard drive, converting on five different third downs, including Browning's
1-yard plunge on 3rd-and-goal to give the home team a 35-34 edge.
Florence answered by moving the Bears deep into ULM territory and on 1st-and-
goal, he rolled left on a designed run before flipping the ball to wide
receiver Levi Norwood, who took it nine yards for a touchdown.
The two-point conversion attempt was unsuccessful, leaving the Bears with a
40-35 advantage with just over seven minutes remaining.
Browning hit Colby Harper for 41 yards on the second play of their ensuing
possession, but Browning fumbled a handoff attempt on the next play, giving
the ball back to Baylor.
Martin then converted a 4th-and-1 to keep the drive alive and Florence found
Williams four plays later for a 22-yard TD pass to make it a two-score game.
Browning added a 15-yard scoring pass to Brent Leonard in the waning seconds
to account for the final margin.
ULM jumped out to a 14-0 lead on a pair of first-quarter touchdowns, as
Browning hit Tavarese Maye for a 22-yard touchdown before Washington capped a
7-play, 76-yard drive with a 9-yard scamper.
Baylor broke through less than a minute into the second stanza, as Florence
found Reese for a 43-yard touchdown strike, but the Warhawks responded less
than three minutes later, when Washington broke through the line and went 48
yards untouched to give ULM a 21-7 edge.
Martin's 1-yard plunge later in the second brought the visitors within 21-14
and Florence found Williams down the right sideline midway through the second
stanza for a 48-yard touchdown pass to knot the game at 21-21.
Aaron Jones buried a 34-yard field goal as time expired in the first half to
send the Bears into the locker room with a 24-21 lead.
ULM opened the second half with a quick score, as Edwards scampered 58 yards
for a score on the fifth play of the half for a 28-24 edge, but Baylor
responded two drives later when Florence hit Reese for a 46-yard scoring
strike to put the Bears up 31-28.
A 21-yard field goal from Aaron Jones late in the third gave Baylor a 34-28
lead.
