ORONO, Minn. - Hundreds of people gathered at a soccer game in Orono Thursday night to honor the memory of 20-year-old Colton Gleason.
Gleason died last Friday as a result of the injury he suffered when he was punched by a teenager last Thursday night in St. Cloud.
Gleason was walking with friends in an alley in St. Cloud when the teen suspect punched him. Gleason did not know the suspect personally.
In Orono, the boys' soccer team dedicated the game to Gleason by wearing his No. 15 jersey during warm-ups and at half-time the school retired Gleason's official game jersey.
Gleason was a captain of the Orono soccer team as a student in 2010.
"This just shows love and support out there and it gives hope that people out there are praying and caring for you so much," John Gleason, Colton's father, said of the showing Thursday night in Orono.
Colton Gleason's memorial service will be held on Friday.
The suspect in the case is a 17-year-old juvenile and he is being held in St. Cloud of several felony charges without bail.
