MINNEAPOLIS - The final chapter has been written in what can only be described as a failed baseball experiment.

The Minnesota Twins granted middle infielder Tsuyoshi Nishioka his unconditional release Friday. Under the agreement Nishioka will relieve the Twins of their remaining financial commitment on his contract, which includes $3,000,000 for the 2013 season and a $250,000 buyout.

Nishioka released the following statement:

"I would like to thank the Twins organization for helping me fulfill my dream of playing in Major League Baseball. I take full responsibility for my performance which was below my own expectations," Nishioka said. "At this time, I have made the decision that it is time to part ways. I have no regrets and know that only through struggle can a person grow stronger. I appreciate all the support the team and the fans in Minnesota and Rochester have shown me. Arigatou gozaimasu."

A gold-glover during his years playing in Japan, Nishioka struggled both in the field and at the plate during his time with the Twins. He spent the majority of the 2012 season at Triple-A Rochester after signing a three-year contract with the Twins prior to the 2011 season.
