ROSEVILLE, Minn. -- Seimone Augustus was all smiles as she landed back in Minnesota Sunday night. But just a few hours later a trip to Rosedale Mall changed all that.
A Roseville police officer pulled her over on Monday morning. The officer asked why she was in Minnesota because she had out of state license plates and driver's license, according to Roseville Police,
The officer also told her she was violating Minnesota law with her air freshener hanging out her window. In Minnesota it is illegal to have any object suspended between the driver and the windshield
A frustrated Augustus took to Twitter. She tweeted "Thank you officer for ruining my day off and (sic) western conference champion celebration."
Another tweet reads "Supposedly he stop me for an air freshner (sic) hanging in my window, but then went on talking about theft at the mall."
She continued writing "I didn't know you can only drive Minnesota cars to a Minnesota mall and if not you must be stealing or doing something illegal."
A spokesperson for Roseville police wrote in a press release objects like an air freshener hanging from a rear view mirror can obstruct the driver's view of merging traffic or a pedestrian crossing. Augustus was not cited for the incident was but warned.
Roseville police said the shoplifting comment may have been taken out of context.
A spokesperson for the Lynx said the team had no comment. However, Augustus posted a tweet shortly after the incident saying "I guess that goes to show no one is above the air freshener law in Minnesota! Even when you have out of town plates."
