McLean, VA (Sports Network) - Indiana has been voted the top team in the
preseason USA Today/ESPN coaches' poll.
The Hoosiers received 21 out of a possible 31 first-place votes and a total of
761 points from a nationwide panel of coaches. Indiana went 27-9 and reached
the Sweet 16 last season, losing to eventual national champion Kentucky.
Louisville is second in the poll and received five first-place votes. The
Cardinals lost to the Wildcats in the Final Four after winning the Big East
Tournament.
The Cardinals earned 738 points, 20 more than Kentucky, which is third in the
poll and received the remaining five first-place votes.
Ohio State and Michigan round out the top five. North Carolina State is sixth
in the preseason poll and is followed by Kansas, Duke, Syracuse and Florida.
The second 10 consists of Arizona, North Carolina, UCLA, Michigan State,
Creighton, Memphis, Missouri, Baylor, UNLV and San Diego State. The last five
teams ranked are Wisconsin, Gonzaga, Notre Dame, Florida State and Texas.
