Towson, MD (Sports Network) - A former Towson football player told the
university newspaper in published articles Tuesday that head coach Rob Ambrose
inaccurately reported practice times and made offensive comments to the
players.
The Towerlight articles stem from the comments of fifth-year senior Trevor
Walker, who left the team last week, and another former player who spoke under
the condition of anonymity.
Walker accused Ambrose of having the team exceed their NCAA practice limits
and then submitting inaccurate practice times in logs submitted to the
Towson's office of compliance.
Walker also accused Ambrose and defensive coordinator Matt Hachmann of
verbally mistreating team members on a consistent basis.
A Towson spokesman in the athletic department told The Sports Network the
university has no comment on the articles.
Ambrose was named the 2011 Eddie Robinson Award as FCS coach of the year after
he led Towson to last year's CAA Football title one season after finishing in
last place.
This year, Towson has struggled to a 3-4 start, including 2-2 in the CAA.
Another loss would likely knock the Tigers out of consideration for an FCS
playoff bid.
Last Saturday, Towson lost at home to Old Dominion, 31-20, when star running
back Terrance West was held out of the game. He missed practice time last week
because of a death in his family.
