Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - The Los Angeles Dodgers declined the 2013
contract options on outfielder/first baseman Juan Rivera, relief pitcher Todd
Coffey and catcher Matt Treanor on Monday.
Rivera appeared in 109 games with the Dodgers last year and hit .244 with nine
homers and 47 RBI. A career .274 hitter with 132 homers over 12 major league
seasons with the New York Yankees, Montreal, the Los Angeles Angels of
Anaheim, Toronto and the Dodgers, the 34-year-old was set to make $4 million
in 2013. He instead received a $500,000 buyout.
Coffey had a $2.5 million option with a $300,000 buyout and pitched in 23
games before undergoing Tommy John surgery in July. He compiled a 1-0 record
with a 4.66 earned run average prior to being shelved.
The right-hander owns 461 career appearances over eight seasons with
Cincinnati, Milwaukee, Washington and the Dodgers.
Treanor batted just .175 with two homers and 10 RBI in his one season with Los
Angeles and was bought out for $150,000 instead of receiving a $950,000
salary. The 36-year-old is a .221 lifetime hitter and has previously played
with Florida, Detroit, Texas and Kansas City since entering the majors in
2004.
