San Francisco, CA (Sports Network) - The San Francisco Giants parted ways
with one member of their 2012 world championship squad on Thursday, with the
team announcing it will not exercise the contract option on first
baseman/outfielder Aubrey Huff.
The move was entirely expected after Huff batted a career-low .192 with just
one homer and seven RBI in 52 games this past season and missing time with
both a knee injury and an anxiety disorder.
Huff had been a core player on the 2010 Giants team that captured the World
Series title, hitting .290 with 26 homers and 86 RBI and 100 runs scored, and
signed a two-year, $22 million to remain with the club following that season.
The 35-year-old would have made $10 million this season had the Giants
accepted the option, but instead will receive a $2 million buyout.
