Charleston, SC (Sports Network) - Trent Wiedeman led the way with 17 points as
the College of Charleston took down the Towson Tigers, 75-58, in a non-
conference game at TD Arena.
For the Cougars (1-0), Andrew Lawrence added 16 points, seven rebounds and
five assists, while Anthony Thomas and Anthony Stitt each chipped in 12
points. Adjehi Baru, the only starter not to score in double figures, came up
just shy of recording a double-double with his nine points and team best nine
Jerrelle Benimon led all scorers with 23 points for the Tigers (0-1). Bilal
Dixon posted a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds, while Kris Walden
finished with 10 points in the loss.
The Cougars dominated in the first half, knocking down 60 percent of their
field goals. Towson struggled with just 23.1 percent accuracy as the visitors
trailed at the break, 40-14.
After intermission the Tigers heated up, connecting on 48.4 percent of their
shots, but the Cougars didn't let up, hitting on 52.2 percent of their
attempts from the floor. Towson actually outscored Charleston in the second
half, 44-35, but couldn't overcome their terrible start, as the Cougars
cruised to victory.
Charleston, which had a slight edge on the boards, 34-32, survived 17
turnovers on the night.
