Indianapolis, IN (Sports Network) - Peter Jurkin and Hanner Perea, the Indiana
freshmen basketball players suspended nine games for taking impermissible
benefits from a university booster, had their appeal denied on Friday by the
NCAA Committee on Student-Athlete Reinstatement.
The booster in question gave Jurkin and Perea $6,000 and $8,000, respectively,
in benefits, including "plane tickets, meals, housing, a laptop, cell phone
and clothing," even housing the foreign-born student-athletes during multiple
summers.
Jurkin and Perea are required to repay "$250 and approximately $1,590,
respectively, to charities of their choice."
The duo has already missed five games -- all Hoosier wins -- and will be
eligible to play on Dec. 15 at Butler.
The report stated Indiana has suspended its relationship with the booster
until July 1, 2013.
