ST. PAUL, Minn. - Roseville junior track runner Samantha Nielsen won the 800 meters at the Hamline Elite track meet on Friday night in dramatic finish.
Nielsen ran down leader Haylie Zenner of Fergus Falls in the final 10 meters to win the race in a meet record time of 2:11.11. Zenner was the three time Elite meet champion in this event, but Nielsen would show tremendous guts down the stretch to win.
The time of 2:11.11 is the fastest in Minnesota this spring, a school record, and a personal best for Samantha.
