4 Gopher wrestlers suspended

MINNEAPOLIS -- Four University of Minnesota wrestlers have been suspended from competition through 2016, according to a University of Minnesota Athletic Department spokesperson.

The university would not say whether the suspensions are related to previous allegations that some wrestlers used and sold the prescription drug, Xanax. That scandal led to the firing of longtime coach J. Robinson.

Jake Ricker, with the university’s athletic department, said the wrestlers were suspended for violation of team rules, and had no further information.

The members are barred from competition until Jan. 1, but will still attend practice and class.
