MENDOTA HEIGHTS, Minn. - Opening the season with a loss can bring a sports team to an early crossroads: You either come together and re-dedicate, or pack it in and quit.
The St. Paul Academy (SPA) girls soccer team chose the latter, and have been steamrolling opponents ever since. Since that season-opening loss the club has outscored opposing teams 21-2, with Kate Bond picking up 15 of those goals.
"We lost that first game and then came together," recalled coach Ben Bollinger-Danielson. "That following day against Visitation just had a great game, and I could just see it clicking and they've been 'all in' ever since."
The Spartans are now 5-1-1, and currently ranked 5th in state in class 1A.
