NEW GERMANY, Minn - Team USA made it through to the next round, but not the way some wanted.
USA lost to Germany 1-0 Thursday but earned a spot in the World Cup's knockout round.
"Score for Germany. Darn! " Travis Weserman said while watching the game on a New Germany bar's patio.
"Oh, well. We can come back," said Brian Shupem, who sat next to Weserman.
"I just want to see a good game. That is the main thing. Just good sportsmanship," Lowell Latzig said.
Every seat was taken at the Devil's Advocate in downtown Minneapolis. Despite the loss, the cheers were loud.
"I think the USA played really well defensively," Brian Foley said. "Makes you a little confused cheering for a loss but we'll take it. I think everyone thought they were going out. We are pretty excited."
Angela Donatelle was among the crowd watching at Devil's Advocate.
"It would've been great if we could have won but it is against Germany and they are ranked two in the world right now. The fact we only lost by one point, it really doesn't matter," she said. "It is weird to cheer for your team when they lost. We advanced. That is what really matters right now."
