Wild G Kuemper named NHL third star of the week

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Winning on the road has been the achilles heel for the Minnesota Wild.

That changed a bit last week, thanks in large part to rookie goaltender Darcy Kuemper. He stopped 51 of the 52 shots he faced in a pair of games to post a 2-0-0 record with a 0.48 goals against average, .981 save percentage and one shutout.

The wins helped keep the Wild in the first Wild Card spot in the Western Conference, and earned him the NHL's third star of the week.

Detroit's Johan Franzen and New Jersey's Adam Henrique were the first and second stars.

Kuemper made 21 saves for his second career shutout in a 3-0 win over the Edmonton Oilers Feb. 27. He then made 30
saves, and denied all seven shootout attempts he faced to pick up a 2-1 win over the
Vancouver Canucks Feb. 28.

The 23-year-old from Saskatoon, Sask., has appeared in 17 games for the Wild this season, compiling a 10-3-2 record with a 2.20
goals-against average and .924 save percentage.
