Perk's Olympic blog: Opening Ceremony Buzz

LONDON - Hours away now from Opening Ceremonies, and the excitement is really snowballing here in London.

The hub of theseGames is Olympic Park. Within this vast area lies 8 venues including the Velodrome, Olympic Stadium, and the BMX track.

It also is where the Opening Ceremonies will take place Friday.

It will be the kickoff party to an event that has been years in the making, and that has cost billions of dollars to pull off.

So what will the ceremonies be like? And how will they follow up the jaw dropping show put on at the last summer games in China.

Danny Boyle has beenhired to direct this massive production. The accomplished director behind Slumdog Millionaire is not a stranger to going big.

As for the content, we've seen some clues here on the ground in London as to what we should expect. The other night walking past the rehearsal gate of the stadium, I saw all sorts of costumes. Including black winged acrobats, chimney sweeps, and futuristic hip hop dancers.

The history of this great country and city leaves so much for Boyle and company to draw upon. There are just so many elements and themes to put in this production.

With that said, the popular rumors that we've been hearing involve a tribute to the literary landscape of Britain from Shakespeare to Rowling. But also the popular culture staples from Mary Poppins to James Bond.

There is talk of a cameo from the Queen herself, and the possibility of a Beatle-esque performance of some sort.

The big mystery has been the lighting and positioning of the cauldron though.

Who will light it? Grapevine odds says Sir Redgrave a famous Olympic rower. Although the sexier speculation running rampant has rumblings of a David Beckham kick that will ignite the flame.

All rumor and hearsay, and to be honest, even if any or all of it is true. I am still going to watch Friday on KARE 11.
