With Thursday's snowfall, the St. Paul Saints will make good use of those inches of snow.
On Saturday, Feb. 1st, the St. Paul Saints will host an outdoor baseball game in the snow at Midway Stadium. The event, which is named the "Summer Shandy Snowball Classic," is part of the St. Paul Winter Carnival.
"We're going to do a Saints game like we do it in the summer but we're just going to do it in February, which will be interesting. We're doing tailgating, we got music, and we got baseball!" said Tom Whaley, Executive Vice President of the St. Paul Saints.
Since the ball field will be covered in snow, organizers said the baselines will be dug out as opposed to chalked. In a winter twist, the players will have to dodge obstacles like snowmen and sleds.
The game will feature current and former Saints players.
Bob Hughes of the St. Paul Winter Carnival said, "I bet we'll have three thousand brave souls come out to watch the game."
Admission is free. The game begins at 1pm on Saturday. Gates to Midway Stadium will open at noon. Food and drinks will be available for purchase.
