MINNEAPOLIS - There is at least one ray of positive news in the latest Minnesota Timberwolves injury saga.
A hand specialist confirmed Thursday that All-Star forward Kevin Love will not need surgery on his injured hand.
Love broke a finger on his shooting hand Wednesday doing knuckle pushups, one component of his normal intensive physical regime. He will miss 6 to 8 weeks, but will be able to do conditioning that does not involve his hand.
The Timberwolves mainstay traveled to New York Thursday for a second opinion, where he received the news no surgery will be required.
It will be a challenging start to the season for the Timberwolves, who had high hopes for a fast start with their newly remade lineup. The club is already missing heralded point guard Ricky Rubio, who is recovering from ACL surgery.
Love reached out to his Twitter followers Thursday, tweeting "Would like to thank all of you who reached out to me in the last 24 hours. This is a minor setback and I will be back stronger."
