Top Minn. athletes talk with Eric Perkins

MINNEAPOLIS - It wasn't easy to align these sports superstars' schedules, but eventually, a mutually agreed upon date was established, and Perk's Grand Slam interview occurred.

Several months ago, we were commenting back in the sports office at what great and iconic sports stars we had in the Twin Cities. Some of the big league sports teams have been enduring losing seasons, but it's not for a lack of MVP's, Olympians and All-Stars.

The sit-down interview took place in front of the fireplace at the Champions Club of Target Field. It includes Adrian Peterson, the Vikings star running back and reigning MVP of the National Football League; Mikko Koivu, a top scoring forward for the Minnesota Wild who is also the team's captain and an Olympian as well; Kevin Love is the Wolves most prolific player and is also a gold medalist at the Olympics and an NBA All-Star; and finally, Joe Mauer, the St. Paul native, Minnesota Twins first baseman, former American League MVP and three-time batting champion.

Together they made for quite a sports summit. They are fans of each other, and their mutual admiration of one another comes across.

The foursome talked about everything from family to fame, media and money, winning and losing and the pressures of winning.

It should be noted, an offer was extended to the Minnesota Lynx, but many of their players had already headed overseas to their off-season basketball jobs.
