MINNEAPOLIS - In an attempt to shore up their starting pitching rotation the Minnesota Twins have signed veteran right hander Jason Marquis.
The club announced Thursday that Marquis, a 2009 All-Star, has inked a 1-year, $3M deal.
Marquis, 33, was 8-5 with a 3.95 ERA in 20 starts with Washington last season. He was traded to Arizona on July 30 and made three starts for the Diamondbacks, going 0-1 with a 9.53 ERA.
His season ended on August 16, when he suffered a fractured right fibula after being struck by a line drive.
Marquis was originally selected by the Atlanta Braves as a sandwich pick in the 1996 First-Year Player Draft. He has pitched for Atlanta, St. Louis, the Chicago Cubs, Colorado, Washington and Arizona.
Marquis has a career record of 104-98, with 645 walks and 974 strikeouts in 326 games.
