ANOKA, Minn. - Former Minnesota Vikings running back Caleb King faces assault charges after allegedly punching a man in the face while attending a birthday party in the city of Oak Grove.
According to the criminal complaint filed in Anoka County, King faces third-degree and a fifth-degree assault charges in connection to the incident on April 28.
The victim was taken to Mercy Hospital with a skull fracture and a nasal fracture, the complaint said. Nineteen sutures were required to repair lacerations to the bridge of the victim's nose and mouth.
"Uncontrolled anger mixed with alcohol leads to dangerous situations" said Anoka County Attorney Tony Palumbo in a news release.
According to the complaint, King approached the victim and accused him of calling him names earlier in the evening. King then punched the man in the face, the complaint said.
King signed with the Vikings as a rookie free agent, but didn't play in a game last season. The Liburne, Ga. native was released by the Vikings earlier this year.
