EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. - Antoine Winfield is trying to instill a sense of urgency in a young Minnesota Vikings secondary that has made some critical mistakes late in the first two games this season.
The veteran cornerback called the entire team together, including coaches and executives, this week for a 10-minute talk about the importance of focusing and finishing in the closing moments. Winfield didn't want to get into specifics about his message, but it's clear that he is trying to motivate a rebuilding defense.
Winfield has two years left on his contract and knows his time is running out. He says he's still on the field because he wants to win a championship, and the Vikings don't appear close to that right now.
Minnesota (1-1) hosts undefeated San Francisco on Sunday.
