GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. -- Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, an edgy rock musical, has rolled into the New Century Theatre and loosely mixes historical facts and fiction to portray the life of Andrew Jackson, America's seventh President and creator of the Democratic party.

Philip C. Matthews, who plays the role of Andrew Jackson, and Aly Westberg, who plays the role of Rachel Jackson, joined KARE 11 News @ 4 to talk more about their roles.

With a book by Alex Timbers and music and lyrics by Michael Friedman, Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson played on Broadway in 2010-11.

The show was nominated for two Tony Awards, Best Book of a Musical and Best Scenic Design of a Musical.

The show portrays Andrew Jackson as an emo rock star who is heavily influenced by the glamor and fame that come with being a celebrity. The rock music reflects Jackson's frustrating journey to the top, especially once he realizes that his role as President is a lot lonelier than he had anticipated.

Although not historically exact, Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson reflects the American temperament during this time period and encourages the audience to research the historical events that took place, including the Indian Removal Act and the Trail of Tears.

There will be a free, post-show discussion immediately following the performance on Thursday, June 19 in the New Century Theatre.
